Alcohol Use Among Veterans and the Military Alcohol use and abuse is prevalent among members of the United States military as well as among the veteran population. Binge and heavy drinking is commonplace among the military and veterans. Veterans and members of the active duty military face a unique set of challenges when compared to the civilian population. There is a trend of combat exposure leading to a higher risk to abuse alcohol. For over a decade the United States military was involved in combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) and Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). This has lead to a generation of service men and women as well as veterans with a host of physical and mental injuries as a result multiple combat deployments. There are many veterans and active duty personnel suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) as well as traumatic brain injuries (TBI) as a result of their deployment in support of OIF and OEF. There is a link between post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumati c brain injuries (TBI) and a higher potential for the abuse of alcohol. Veterans and members of the armed forces deal with a host of psychological injuries related to the stresses of combat which can lead to the abuse of alcohol as a coping mechanism. As stated by Cameron (2016), morning pages is a longhand three-page, a stream of consciousness writing usually done first thing in the morning. It provokes, synchronize, prioritize, cajole, comfort, and clarify the day at hand. Besides, it entails putting anything on three pages a day and others on subsequent days. In line with Cameron (2016) assertions, the following formed my seven-week morning pages. And for purposes of this report, I will be presenting my documentation of every Monday of the week. On that Monday morning, I drew a pen in my journal. Pens in our society are very important. People use pens to write sit in exams which gauge their understanding of the course material. Moreover, in the kindergarten, teachers use pens to teach us how to write which has a great influence in who we become in the future. According to Bean (2011), writing enable us to capture great ideas in life besides helping us to speed things in life. We can always note things that we encounter shortly. Leaders, on the other hand, carry pens wherever they go to highlight important stuff and improve motor skills. Bean (2011), concurs that when you note something, it will be very difficult to forget. That is why I often write short notes whenever am in a lecture hall so that I do not forget any important point. Intrinsically, leaders value pens, so do I. In week two, I noted down the topics I read, communication skills. Communication is very important in the society. On that morning, I learned the importance of effective communication in an organization which includes; building and maintaining good relationships and helping in facilitating innovation (Maguire and Pitceathly 2002). Notably, effective communication helps in building an effective team. A skill I acquired by constantly organizing students when we wanted to perform a task. In a work setting, I learned that effective communication skills help in managing employees which ultimately contribute to the growth of the company. I drew an image of a donkey. In our society, donkeys are often our servants, so does leaders. Donkeys help in performing a difficult task at home by carrying luggages. They often work without complaining and in the process inspire change in the community. From that image, I saw myself severing people tirelessly and staying focused on my goals and ambitions. I endeavor to work extra hard to achieve my goals of becoming the president one day. That Monday morning, I just work up and read the bible. I studied the book of Galatians. In particular, chapter 6 verse 9 was very encouraging, "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." That verse encouraged me to be a good leader and stay focus on whatever I do, never to give up because my reward will surely come. As a leader, I find refuge in this verse. I drew my dream house. A house provides us with a shelter which is a basic need. In leadership, our character resembles a house. Whenever we encounter problems, our character defines us. Same to after a long day at work or from any activity, we retire in our houses to relax. I will endeavor to build a strong character which will encourage my peers to change their wrongdoing. Lanctot and Irving (2007) observe that good character makes a good name, and a good name possess riches. Therefore, as a leader, maintaining good character is the ultimate goal. Instead of reading and planning my day, I just visited the gym to exercise. Regular physical activity has several benefits such as helping in controlling weight, combating health conditions and diseases, improves mood, and boosting personal energy (Chou, Hwang and Wu 2012). Being fit is a way of staying alert and focused since there is an elimination of boredom. Successful leaders usually make it a routine to exercise regularly. It helps freshen the brain which consequently improves our reasoning on every aspect of life (Chou, Hwang and Wu 2012). I read "Think Big" by Ben Carson and noted important lessons. Some of the victory lessons learned include; success is what we do with our ability by incorporating our talents (Carson and Murphey 2005). I also learned that dreaming higher than the sky and deeper than the ocean is the key to achieving greatness. Additionally, I learned that taking risk is very vital because when we do not, we will only regret on things that we did not do (Carson and Murphey 2005). As such, leaders have a call of taking a risk to work on their ambitions. Personally, I will always follow my dreams since from that, I shall impact the society and world at large. Reflection of personal leadership strengths and weaknesses People possess different leadership traits that drive their lives. In particular, I possess various leadership strengths which include; sociability, integrity, determination, self-confidence, and intelligence. According to Northouse (2014), high levels of reasoning, perceptual ability, and strong verbal ability appear to make one a better leader. Basing an argument on this supposition, I can say I exhibit these qualities. Whenever I communicate, my verbal ability shows comprehension of verbal information and verbal reasoning. My classmates sometimes compare me with great orators like Martin Luther King Junior. Moreover, my reasoning and perceptual ability reflect attentiveness to detail whenever I interact with my fellow students. I often take time to listen and digest the information before talking. Goleman, Boyatzis, and McKee (2013) identify such traits with leaders all over the globe. When a person is self-confident, people can easily identify his skills, and competencies and people believe in them as change agents possess self-assurance and high levels of self-esteem. Self-confidence enables leaders to influence the action of other people positively in the society. My self-confidence reflected in instances where I took challenges in life. Particularly, undertaking opportunities to start a business while at school. According to De Cremer and Van Knippenberg (2004), it requires self-confidence to change the society, more so taking a step to work on the maiden dream. Many people often wish to start doing something but it takes self-confident individuals like me to begin. According to Northouse (2014), determination refers to the drive, dominance, persistence, initiative, and intrinsic desire to get things done. Such characteristics only exist in leaders who do not have a limit with their desire to achieve greatness. Whenever we are given assignments in class, I do take my time to research adequately and in good time and submit my papers. Mart (2013), observes that such traits help leaders persevere when faced with challenges and thus become more proactive. One of my key strengths is personal integrity. My friends usually tell me that I possess a high degree of reliability, loyalty, trustworthiness, and honesty. Even though some of my classmates at times copy assignments from fellow students, I regard that behavior as an insult to my personal integrity. As such, I usually give a personal approach to assignments and exams without seeking for external help. Furthermore, I attended my secondary education in Catholic community school which required students to embrace gospel values. That experience helped nurture my leadership skills, attitude, and self-discipline which are key to becoming responsible, capable, and confident in the society. Leaders who are sociable often seek to be sensitive to others' needs, diplomatic, tactful, courteous, outgoing, and friendly (Stronge 2007). Leaders like me often interact with people. This played a crucial role in bringing my fellow students together whenever we experience a problem in class. Talking to teachers is essentially seamless to me. I find it very easy to talk to visitors and those from the neighborhoods. Such qualities have helped me win negotiations that my peers regard as impossible. Nevertheless, I always identify people as who they are, a people pleaser without looking down upon them. As the eldest child, I often work to unite the family. I always achieve this by honoring special occasions and anniversaries that make people smile. My classmates and friends always tell me that I am a good listener. In reality, I do honor my personal relationships, the happiness, and success of my friends. Being an industrious student, I find it very difficult to delegate tasks given in a group. When teachers give group assignments, I usually take the responsibility of bringing the members together but fail to delegate different sections. I feel that I am the best in doing things and if I delegate any responsibility, then, they will not handle it adequately since I fear to fail. Perfectionism is the act of wanting to offer the best (Kutlesa and Arthur 2008). Considering the fact that I am very intelligent, I always endeavor to give my best to tasks assigned or in whatever I contribute. This at times becomes tiresome since I give a lot of concentration to deliver the best. Moreover, it makes me be in wrong paths with friends since I expect them to meet my standards of delivery in everything we do together. Though it works to my advantage, it is strenuous and cannot hold ground for long when there are several responsibilities to execute. Owing to my level of intelligence and planning skills, I always endeavor to plan my activities in advance and portion adequate time to handle them. I usually do these activities to avoid pressure that comes with deadline tasks. As such, I don't fancy activities that have pressure as it at times renders me helpless an anxious to perform. Besides, when under pressure, I will just smile or feel frightened to reason and give the best of my ability. One of my personal strengths is integrity. Therefore, I am always too honest to lie even in situations that require a lie to save a state of affairs. I feel it is unethical to lie as it compromises on my personal integrity. Despite Steinel, Utz, and Koning (2010) arguing that lying is healthy, I am quite uneasy to lie thus at times when I mess in some circumstances. Even when I cannot answer a question in an exam room, I do not glimpse my neighbors work. As an intelligent and hardworking leader, I sometimes find myself taking many risks at a time. My pursuit for change often pushes me to multi-task thus becoming overworked. Though leaders should have programs and schedules on what they do, I tend to achieve many goals at a go. For example, despite being a student, I also engage in income generating activity in addition to mentoring my neighbors' children. I offer private coaching to students, teaching them how to play tennis where I get paid every end month. Improving leadership competence requires taking bold steps and strategies in every decision that comes on the way (Bolden and Gosling 2006). When faced with situations, stopping as asking oneself how a leader would react is a gateway to changing personal behaviors. Consequently, seeing oneself as a leader inspires hope, acknowledges competence, and enlarge ones influence on others. After self-reflection, the next activity is to take maiden action to change the situation at hand. As if taking action is not enough, one needs to learn every step of the journey by leading the relationship with people. This entails becoming proactive, creative, and collaborative with every aspect of change (Contino 2004). Furthermore, on the path for change, one needs to manage personal stress and anxiety that might interfere with the working process. In particular, one can meditate, relax, getting enough sleep, healthy eating, and exercise. All in all, cultivating the right attitude is very important in achieving maiden goals. When an individual adhere to all these strategies to the letter, then achieving leadership competence becomes an easy task. In the current situation, overcoming my leadership challenges involves getting over my weaknesses. This involves avoiding taking many risks, planning to avoid pressure, minimize on perfectionism, at least delegate duties and at times lie to save a situation. One of the personal goals at hand is avoiding taking many risks. As a student, I should stay focus and avoid overworking which is tiresome though beneficial in terms of income generation. Instead of mentoring and training children to play tennis, it is prudent to pick on one activity, like playing tennis, which will not only earn me an income but also provide a good way to relax after school activity. As such, I will very active and offer my services effectively. Hackett and Wang (2012), regards honesty as a virtue that every leader should have. However, at times, I need to be keen enough in situations where I need to "lie" to save a situation at hand. That means by lying, I will be saving a situation which is very dangerous to happen. Particularly when someone is critically ill or in an emergency. Salvaging such a situation is a rare quality of a good leader. Therefore, I will strive to change my attitude appropriately. Working under pressure is a characteristic of many leaders. However, to me, I find it challenging. And for me to improve my leadership competence, it is high to learn techniques of working under such conditions since some come as an emergency. The best way achieve this goal is to engage in high demanding tasks with less help from colleagues which will then push me to work extra hard. I such situation, I will acquire skills to cope with working under extreme pressure without anxiety taking over me. According to Kutlesa and Arthur (2008), overcoming perfectionism challenge involves accepting the fact that I am human like everyone else and thus I am not perfect in everything I do. Moreover, after achieving a good enough result, I can leave it at that point and avoid stressing myself further. I should also realize that I am hurting the people around me and myself by buying into the myths of perfection which change behaviors. I will also be doing things that are right by shaping an environment of human standards around me. Therefore, I will avoid unnecessary tension to over perform and thus enhance my leadership competencies. Achieving personal leadership competencies will also incorporate learning the art of delegating duties. On the word of Salahuddin (2010), delegating duties provide an opportunity of developing other people's talents. During those times, we can take up other challenges which nurture our leadership skills. When I delegate excess responsibilities in the future, I will foster a collaborative work environment which will not only provide me with an opportunity to learn more but also encourage the good working relationship. This evokes sympathy for Willy as he is trying to do the best for his family however he still cannot provide for them even through his death. During the play â€Å"Death of a Salesman† the title is significant as there is a physical death of a salesman in the respect that Willy dies and he is a salesman. Through killing himself Willy hopes to provide the financial support, which he has been failing to gain for many years, for his family that is required. The death of Willy is not honourable as he desires and is sorry ending to his unsuccessful life in business. In conclusion the title of the play is significant as it in further understanding of the events, which occur in the play. Miller uses the title to convey both a physical and metaphorical death and in order for the reader to understand the ending to their full capability.

What Is CTY at Johns Hopkins Complete Guide SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips CTY, or Center for Talented Youth, at Johns Hopkins University (JHU) offers an assortment of resources to gifted students. These resources include summer programs and courses, written resources, community awards/recognition, and college counseling. The first step to many of the CTY programs is registering for the Talent Search. Even the programs that are open to everyone give priority to students who participated in the Talent Search. For your convenience, we’ve compiled everything here into one magnificent blog entry guide. I recommend reading it all the way through, but if you only want to read one particular section, you can pick it out from the Table of Contents. The CTY website calls its Talent Search the "gateway to CTY†...meaning, I think, that the Talent Search is the portal through which many students experience CTY programs. Since there are different Talent Searches for each CTY International program, I'm going to limit my discussion to the U.S. Talent Search (including those students who apply to the U.S. Talent Search internationally). The CTY Talent Search involves the following steps: Step 1: If you're eligible for the Talent Search (more on that next), register with CTY Talent Search. Step 2: Next, you select the test that’s right for you, register for that, and take it. Step 3: After you get your score report, CTY sends you a Certificate of Participation as well as a list of other CTY programs your score qualifies you for. Step 4: If you're not satisfied with your score, or your score is too low for the programs you want to participate in, you can retest at a later date. Who’s Eligible for the CTY Talent Search? The CTY Talent Search is open to all 2nd-8th graders who qualify by: Scoring 95th percentile (or higher) on a nationally normalized test. Examples of these tests include the Weschler Intelligence Scale for Children or any of the Woodcock Johnson Tests. Scoring 95th percentile (or higher) on any other the other qualifying state tests. Examples of these tests include the NY Statewide Testing Program or the California Standards Test. Displaying superior academic performance. This criterion is ONLY for students without standardized test scores. In order to qualify under this criterion, you must display superior math and critical reasoning abilities. For more on Talent Search eligibility for 2nd-8th graders, go to the CTY's website. What if you're in 9th grade or above? Unfortunately, students in grades 9-12 are too old to qualify for the Talent Search; instead, to gain access to CTY programs, they must either take the qualifying tests (SAT, ACT, Advanced SCAT, or STB) on their own or go through the Diagnostic and Counseling Center. I'll talk a little bit more about the DCC later in this article. Where Do You Apply for CTY? You can apply for the Talent Search online. When Does the CTY Talent Search Happen? For CTY purposes, the academic year is July 1-June 30, so to qualify for CTY for the next school year you should apply after July 1st (more on deadlines here). It's also not just about when you apply to CTY - your test dates also determine your eligibility. What do I mean by this? Let's say you apply to CTY at the end of your 7th grade year (e.g. June 19th), but don’t take the SCAT, STB, SAT, ACT, etc until after July 1st. Because you took your qualifying test after July 1st, CTY will consider you an 8th grader and require you to meet 8th grade score requirements for all programs and recognition ceremonies, even though you technically registered while you were in 7th grade. What do students get out of the CTY Talent Search? One perk is the opportunity to take what Duke calls â€Å"above-level† tests (that is, you take the SAT or ACT before you're in high school) and compare your results with similarly gifted peers. Why is this helpful? It can give you information early on about areas you might want to further develop and give you a preview of the test-taking process. For instance, let's say you take the SAT as a 7th grader and score a 300 on Evidence-Based Reading and Writing, which is below par compared to your peers in CTY. You'll know that you have to work on that skill, and as a result be able to better plan with your family for high school and the college admissions process. If you just took the SAT as a 7th grader without taking part in the Talent Search, you would not have the opportunity to know how you stack up against other students in your grade and age group; instead, you would end up being compared to much older students, which doesn't really tell you anything about where you should be now. Taking part in the Talent Search also opens up opportunities to enroll in CTY programs, like Family Academic Programs. Even programs for which the Talent Search is not a mandatory prerequisite, like Academic Explorations or CTY Online,give preference to students who are Talent Search participants. CTY Talent Search participants also gain access to a wide variety of other resources. I'll discuss these resources later on in more detail. Finally, there's the recognition of your prowess at the (aptly named) Award Ceremonies. At year-end ceremonies, CTY recognizes the highest scorers on the SAT or ACT out of all the Talent Search participants. We have more information about these ceremonies in our articles about the SAT and ACT score requirements to qualify, but for now, I'll just say that it is usually gratifying to get special recognition for your talent. It's not just about the medal (although you do get one at the Award Ceremonies)- it's knowing that other people value your hard work. Devil's Advocate: When Should You NOT Apply to CTY at Johns Hopkins? IF... ...you don’t care about taking college entrance exams early, OR ...you don’t have any interest in taking part in any of the CTY programs or using any of their other resources, THEN it might not be worth it to do CTY at Johns Hopkins. Why? Most colleges don’t care about what you did in elementary or middle school, unless it was something truly spectacular, like qualifying for the Olympic Games or playing a solo concert in Carnegie Hall. Bottom line:if you’re going to use the resources and take advantage of the programs open to you through CTY, then do it. If not, save your money (and time). How Much Does CTY Cost? To enroll in the CTY Talent Search, there is a fee of $44 if you live in the United States, or $57 if you are an international student. In addition, you must pay test fees (currently $50.50 for the ACT without writing and $47.50 for the SAT without essay). Disclaimer: all costs mentioned here and in the rest of the article are as of the time this article was published- it's possible that they may change in the future, so be sure to double check before making a budget around these numbers. Can You Get Financial Aid? Yes. If you qualify for free or reduced school lunches and are US permanent resident, then CTY will reduce your Talent Search application fee to $10 (from $44) and provide you with a voucher to waive your test fees for one test session (either the SAT or ACT). Unfortunately, there is no financial aid for international students available through CTY. In addition to need-based aid, CTY also provides scholarships to students already part of CTY through the CTY Scholars program. Talent Search Only: Family Academic Programs Family Academic Programs at Johns Hopkins’ Center for Talented Youth are designed for students andtheir families or guardians. The programs range from all-day or overnight programs to extended (week-long) educational explorations. Costs vary widely, depending on the length of the program and what it involves. Just from the research I did for this article, it seems like there are a bunch of amazing opportunities in all sorts of areas for students and families alike (not that I'm jealous or anything, but upcoming programs includetraveling to Morocco!). As far as I can tell, Family Academic Programs are open to all studentsand their families, with no score requirements; however, if I find out that this is wrong I'll update this article accordingly. Return to Table of Contents Talent Search Only: Award Ceremonies CTY recognizes exceptionally high scoring students at award ceremonies at the end of each year. These students are 7th and 8th graders with qualifying scores, as well as students who are part of the Study of Exceptional Talent. While you must play for your own transportation and accommodations, the ceremonies themselves are free of charge. There are multiple regional Award Ceremonies every spring, located in various cities throughout the U.S., China, and in Hong Kong. I discuss what the score qualifications are for these ceremonies in SAT- and ACT-requirement articles, but basically these ceremonies are for 7th and 8th graders who participated in the Talent Search and scored extremely well on the SAT or ACT. In addition to the regional Award Ceremonies, CTY also has an international awards ceremony called the Grand Ceremony, held every year at John Hopkins' Shriver Hall. This ceremony recognizes the absolute top scoring students from the Talent Search and includes all students who are part of the Study of Exceptional Talent. The following series of resources and programs are open to all qualified students, including those who did not participate in the Talent Search. But caveat emptor: at least for their summer programs, CTY explicitly states that â€Å"when we assign students to courses, we assign returning students first, then Talent Search participants, and then other applicants.† (bolding mine) Summer Programs There are multiple summer programs offered through CTY, offered in multiple locations across the US and in Hong Kong. Some are entirely course-based (Academic Explorations, Intensive Study, and Global Issues at Princeton), providing an opportunity for advanced students to challenge themselves with academic endeavors in the company of similarly advanced peers. Another program, the Civic Leadership Institute, offers courses in combination with real world experience, allowing students to work with actual communities and grapple with the issues facing them today. Who can take part in these summer programs? Any students in grades 2-12 who qualify (again, more about qualifying scores in these articles). Students in grades 2-4 are only eligible for the day programs, while students in grades 5-12 can do the residential programs. The summer programs tend to run from the end of June to the beginning of August, with varying tuition costs depending on the program content and locations. Alternatively, some students useCTYOnline courses as a way to prepare for AP, IB, or SAT II tests. Out of all the programs through CTY at Johns Hopkins, CTYOnline courses are open to the widest age-range of students,from Pre-K students all the way up to 12th graders. The qualifications, of course, differ depending on age. In order to be eligible for the program, exceptional Pre-K through 1st graders need to have at least part of apsychoeducational assessment. Students in grades 2-8 who took part in the Talent Search must meet the SAT or ACT score requirements; if they didn't test in time through the Talent Search, they must apply for provisional admission. Students in grades 9-12 must submit official score reports for the SAT, ACT, or PSAT, or go through the Diagnostic and Counseling Center. So how much does this cost? The application fee is $15 (with an additional $20 charge if you are an international student), and courses range in cost from$370 for the Spanish Reader’s Workshop up to $1865 for AP Chinese Language and Culture (prices taken from most recent course listing). Study of Exceptional Talent The Study of Exceptional Talent, or SET, is open to students who scored extraordinarily well on the SAT at an early age (up to 13 years 10 months). We have more information on how the score requirements work in our article on SAT score requirements for CTY, but the short version is that if you took the SAT before age 13 and got ≠¥ 700 on Math or Verbal (either Critical Reading on the old SAT or Evidence-Based Reading and Writing on the new SAT), you're eligible for the SET. So what is the SET, exactly? SET is a free program that provides counseling, opportunities to interact with other similarly gifted students, access to CTY resources like the SET Precollege Newsletter, and supplemental letters of recommendation for students applying to college or competitive high schools/prep schools. Students in grades PreK-1 and 9-12 may go through the DCC in order to qualify for CTY programs. Depending on the service, the DCC provides assistance online, over the phone, or on the Johns Hopkins University campus. CTY's Imagine magazineresources provides information to all CTY students about academic competitions, academic summer programs, internships, distance learning resources, early college entrance programs, career exploration resources, and research resources. That was maybe not one of my better reverse-engineered-acronyms, but more important than my failed acronym-ing: I've made up a list of helpful hints to boost your chances of getting into CTY's Talent Search and other CTY programs. If you haven’t done particularly well on school standardized tests within the last two years, take a look into some of the other test options. Maybe an IQ test would be a better way to identify your talent and potential. If you’re waffling between doing the Talent Search and waiting until later to apply to other CTY programs, definitely consider participating in the Talent Search. As I've said before, there are some programs and resources that are only available to students who took part in the Talent Search, and even the resources available to all students give priority to Talent Search participants. If you don't do well on the SAT or ACT when you take it through the Talent Search, you can always retest later. When you've started the 7th Grade Talent Search process, don’t forget to study for the SAT/ACT. Why? Because while CTY is just using the SAT or ACT as a sorting mechanism, if you blow it off, it could prevent you from getting into a summer studies program that you totally deserve to attend (or at the very least cause you to have to retake the test in order to qualify). At the very minimum, you need to be familiar with the test structure and timing. How can you do this? Take a practice test to gauge where you are, then use this information to determine the amount you have to improve. Know how much time you have to study so you can plan your prep accordingly. The role of women In the three stories which I studied the role of women varies, in the man with the twisted lip Mrs. St Clare comes across as the type of woman that stays in and cooks and cleans at her husbands demands, she has dinner for him at his arrival home in the evening and doesnt ask where his money comes from or what he does, she just accepts that it is money. Whereas is the speckled band Helen Stoner is much more independent of her self, she rides on the train and dog cart in the early hours of the morning without permission, she tries to find out for herself the cause of her sisters death and seeks out her own help even though she is fully aware of her stepfathers capabilities. The nature of Law and Order Compared to real Victorian England the police in the stories come across as very laid back, in the red headed league they are fully aware of the happenings and still offer to make all of it disappear even though it is a very large investigation, and is very important. Although the police are satisfactory to the community, Holmes always seems to outsmart them, as it were, always get there first. But yet he is not a part of the police service, he isnt running a private service for money because he only asks for the expenses to be paid. this shows his devotion to the service and how he doesnt do it for the money. Transport and communications The transport in the stories is quite modern in some parts, in the speckled band, Helen stoner uses a train to reach Holmes, this shows that train run at all hours, because she was traveling at early hours of the morning. She also used a dog cart or horse and carriage. Communication was not really mentioned in the stories but telephones are mentioned a few times, this shows more than telegram communication is used . The essay â€Å"Self-Reliance†, by Ralph Waldo Emerson, is a persuasive essay promoting the ways of transcendentalism. He uses this paper to advance a major point using a structure that helps his argument. In the paper, Emerson begins his concluding thoughts with a statement that greater self-reliance will bring a revolution. He then applies this idea to society and all of its aspects, including religion, education, and art. This brings Emerson to a new, more precise focus on how society never advance, rather it recedes on one side as fast as it gains on the other. This shocking, yet intriguing, idea is supported and augmented using tone, metaphor, example, and the consequence of ignoring his opinion. The final result is a conglomeration of ideas into the major points that, â€Å"Nothing can bring you peace but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace but the triumph of principles.† With the major points and devices used by Emerson defined, it is now possible to examine in greater detail how he persuades the reader, starting with the use of tone. The use of word choice, sentence length and structure, as well as many other factors set the tone of this paper. The final result is a paper that has a conciliatory tone. A paper written in this authoritative style is helpful in persuasion. It pulls the reader into the authors ideas, making them your own. The tone of the paper thus allows for metaphors to be extremely powerful in promoting Emerson’s ideas. The metaphors are numerous throughout the paper, however there is one indelible one towards the end of the paper that really helps to shape the essay. â€Å"Society is a wave. The wave move onward, but the water of which it is composed does not.† The clear metaphor of society to the wave and the particles of water to the people distinctively demonstrates Emerson’s idea the society never advances. If a man is not self-confident and is unable to share himself with others, as people die so too does their experience. But the ability to be self-reliant eliminates this loss of experience. Although this metaphor is strong enough on its own to provide all of the support necessary for the idea that society never advances, Emerson adds to it and his other ideas with examples. The first examples are used to support the lack of progression of society. The â€Å"civilized† man of the Americas and Europe is compared to the â€Å"savages† of New Zealand.

As a result, people tempted by jobs offering high wages and employment begin to change according to demand. Therefore, technological progress plays a key role in the employees of the temptation to change its current line of work. Another reason is the urgent need to change their work environment. This is a human tendency that tempts workers to seek something different instead of just one job all his life. Many employees get so bored of your current job field; you do not mind changing jobs, even with a lower salary. We also want to have some style okay some small scale designers do provide us with that but if we are talking about promoting our culture through fashion we are so far behind...what I see is promoting the big mighty west in the fashion industry. We try to copy their cuts their ideas and just adulterate out own sense of fashion. We have big names in this industry but it seems that the clothes are becoming smaller by the day. The conflictions of the Snopes family in this story are of anger, fear, and despair. Abner Snopes, the father, is an angry man. He believes that he is always right, he is abusive, and is always being short-changed by life. Even though his wife is impartial to his actions, she looks at him with an â€Å"anxious face at his shoulder,† which describes how weary she is when in the presence of her husband (Faulkner 1961). Sarty’s whole family lives under a blanket of fear and anxiety due to his father’s insecurities, and resentment for people who belittle him. Sarty’s older brother is easily impressed, and follows their father’s manipulative ways of dysfunction: the brother said â€Å"Better tie him to the bedpost† (Faulkner 1965). Abner uses manipulations and violence to keep them in a sense of hopelessness and fear, never feeling safe. Sarty is too immature to put his young thoughts into words, thinking â€Å"They are safe from him. People wh ose lives are a part of this peace and dignity are beyond pain’s rifle. He cries out for his dead father as a young child would, but makes an adult decision to run away from everything and his family. Sarty ran into the woods for safety. He never knew how long he kept running away from the despair and fear of the choices that he and his father made that day. Little did Sarty recognize that running through that door at the de Spain mansion led to freedom for himself and his family: â€Å"Perhaps, it will take a Sarty Snopes to enter through another front door and, though promptly sent away, learn that he has the capacity and the willingness to make moral decisions that will lead him, not to death, but to life† (Samway 103). Sarty, knowing he would never feel the terror and despair of his father actions again, he chose to grieve, and made an adult decision to move forward to a new beginning in life with his integrity intact.

(m852, module1) Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), on the other hand, is another MRI sequence which is indicated for tissues with internal stuctures demonstrating anisotropy similar to that of some crystals, such as white matter axons in the brain or heart muscle fibers. With this anisotropic structure, the water molecules will diffuse faster along the internal structure and slower as it moves perpicularly. Hence, the direction of movement of the molecules, whether parallel or perpendicular to the internal structure will cause a change in the rate of diffusion. The infrastructure of muscle fibre is complicated. This infrastructure determines the functionality of the muscle itself. Diffusion tensor imaging (‘DTI’) is a technique that can be used to better the muscle fibre/functionality relationship (Damon et al, 2002, pp.97-104). In addition to investigation of skeletal muscles, DTI is used for viewing the muscles of the heart, kidney, spinal cord, and brain. DTI is a non-invasive technique that is particularly used for in vivo analysis (Frank et al, 2010, p. 1510). For example, researchers are increasingly interested in the direction information concerning fibrous structures in muscle that DTI can reveal (Villanova et al, 2005, pp 1-38). Direction information concerning fibrous structures in white matter can also be obtained. The following figure, Figure 1, shows Images of the white matters comparing children and adolescents using DTI technology (Barnea Goraly et al 2005, p. 1849). DTI measuring water diffusion in vivo is a pioneering modality (Villanova et al, 2005, pp 1-38). The theory behind DTI is based of cell physiology. Within the cell, the cell membranes and proteins influence the flow of water. These cell membranes and proteins tend to limit the diffusion rate
